   If I put a 1litre exhaust system on my 1.6 vtr will it do any damage?

   dont think so. i'm still using the 1.1 center pipe and backbox on my 16v conversion. its slightly restricted but fine

   Its a smaller bore. It will hinder the engine at high revs

   You may lose some power as it will be more restrictive due to being smaller.
   
   Just get a VTR/VTS one or an aftermarket and actualy gain some power
