Saxo vtr 2001 chugging and popping

  1. #1
    Hi All,

I have a citroen saxo vtr 2001 51 plate. It has been popping and chugging recently while driving. Then yesterday an orange light started flashing and the car felt like it was only firing on 2 cylinders and was dipping the revs near to the point of cutting out. The orange light was flashing at first then stayed on and has been on since. Went to the car today and it started fine then after 30 seconds went weird and started chugging and misfiring and sounding like a general bag of nails. When driving the car it really struggles and you can feel it misfiring. I had to keep it in second to get up a hill at 40mph earlier. Not sure if this has any bearing on it but over the last few weeks the revs have been jumping up and holding high revs while stationery intermittently. It doesn't just do the misifiring when warm as it did it earlier straight from cold. Any ideas what is wrong with my shatxo???

    Cheers everybody

I have noticed that it appears if I can get the car started and keep the revs high over 2.5k revs it will seem to be fine until the revs drop below this then it just struggles like mad and seems to be misfiring big time!!!

Nobody got any ideas or had the same kind of issue??

It will be the coilpack or a spark plug. If you get a fault code reader on it, it will be p0300 missfire detected

    Could be faulty lambda sensor.

Thanks for the replies guys. I changed the plugs last night and it drove fine at first then I stopped and turned the car off and left it for around 30 minutes and went back to it for the return journey home and again it was doing the same thing ...maybe the coil pack being removed made some sort of difference?? i drove in to work this morning and the orange light is still on but the car didn't do any misfiring like it has been doing. It felt like a slight misfire but nothing major and I managed to get to work on all 4 cylinders. I picked up another coil pack last night but the car wouldn't start with that on so I am thinking maybe I should try another one if I can source one and see if that clears it up....if not then lambda sensor it is! it is weird how one minute it is fine then the next it sounds like a bag of spanners

Well.....the orange light is now back on and the car cuts out now and then. If I turn the engine off and then back on the orange light stays on but the misfiring stops for a bit. Stumped so I have invested in a fault code reader and will see how I get on with it
