suspension Question?

  1. #1
Ive tried to post this in the track motorsport section but as ive just registered it isnt allowing me access.

Im on building a saxo Vts race car and I am about to start on the suspension, the car is n/a 190bhp race motor that will be running on Toyo 888s, at the moment it is running bilstien fronts with very low springs (usure how low but to me looks too low!!) the rear is lowered again right on the floor on the standard torsion bar with Bilstien shocks, I want to build this right from the start and I feel the car needs to be higher as it is It wont ride the kerbs where i will be racing ,the front should be easy to sort with a change of springs .
for the rear I have a spare axle that i am going to build up and Ive read up and a lot of people doing track work are recommending changing to a larger torsion bar for improved handling , Ive googled for suppliers struggling to find places that are selling them, can any one point me in the direction of recommended suppliers or offer advice on suspension advice for track use or point me in the direction of anyone than can help with suspension set up/advice .

    thanks in advance.

    its a 1600 vts motor
    qep big valve head
    modified valves
    uprated valve springs/shims
    290 cams
    solid lifters
    woosner hi comp pistons
    lightened balanced bottom end
    lightened balanced flywheel
    steel rods
    arp bolts
    jenvey itbs.
    maniflow manifold and system

makes 190bhp and 145 torques which in fairness wont be quite enough compared to other 1600s im going to be racing hence wanting to get the handling right.

yep thats the car,Im not new to racing and tracking cars but I am new to saxos so any help is appreciated, the car seems to go well enough in a straight line and tbh I havnt tried it in on a circuit but I know its too low for what i will be doing in it.

I had a look on ebay for uprated torsion bars but couldnt find anything, can you post a link to the company you bought your s from to give me an idea what I need to budget on.

    thanks.

The set up that i went for ( Note tested yet ) is

Race refurbed Bilstein front and rear ,
with eibach 350 lb front coil overs spring up front and probably the Pug1off.com torsion bars 21-23mm and antiroll bar ( That is when i get aroubd to order them )

A lot of people use this type of set up here as end result - moneywise is really good

There's usually a group buy on 106 Rallye Register for bigger torsion bars - much cheaper than £324.

I spoke to the guy at GMC, seems to be a very knowledgeable guy and spent a fair bit of time on the phone to me discussing various options

Joe, I will be racing the car in the Northern Saloons class D.
