hi, i want to give the saxo a good service. I have a Mark two vtr and I'm wondering What are the best parts to service her with.
I've seen on asda direct they're doing 5litre Castrol edge for 35 quid. But also ebay have a seller with carlube fully synthetic for 22 quid not sure which to get........ I've been told ngk are the best plugs this correct ? If so i Can get four of them for 8 quid delivered off ebay.... Do you have any other recommendations regarding brands on fuel filters and oil filters ? Oh and gear box oil too.

don't use fully synthetic in a car that wasn't designed for it.
10w/40 semi synthetic will be good enough.
BKR6EZ ngk spark plugs (most manufature use ngk as standard)
we use mostly fram or coopers oil filters at work but if you get get blueprint then go for that.
any air filter there all the same tbf.

    Thanks for your input mate.

I had a good read through the oilmans thread, surely using fully synthetic, its not going to hurt the car. Just offer more protection ?

Some may say over kill but, in the past ive payed cheaper and lost out so this time im going with my instinct, paying that little bit more and look after my car.

She is in need of a good quality oil tbh and deserves it as its been a cracking little car that I want to look after. Plus i do motorway miles now too.

Any way i've got my bits from Euro car parts, ( Thanks to Antony Martin 25% discount), Oil filter, fuel filter, NGK plugs and pollen filter. My oil filter is green cotton so im just going to clean that and re oil.

Also (too late im afraid) already got some fuchs fully synthetic 5w 40 and some Fuchs TITAN SINTOPOID FE SAE 75W-85 Should be ticking over nicely when I get it all on there. Got an immediate 10% discount for being on saxp too

Thanks for all your input !

i've always been told (when at college doing aprenticship) that you should never put fully synthetic into a car that wasn't designed for it. something to do with the metal used in the bearings ect.

and the general make up of the oil. basically with do more harm than good. in an engine that isn't designed for it.

but yes fully synthetic is better hence why most manufacures specify it now and building engines to suit.

    for example. vauxhall- ecotec engine
    pre 2000 10w/40
    2001-2006 5w/30 semi
    post 2006 5w/30 fully synthetic.

/\ recomended by vauxhall them selves. but you would have thought it were the same engine looks the same, sounds the same, goes the same. but the internal materials are different.
