Exhaust Sheered... what do I need to replace here?

  1. #1
    Hiya,

So was bombing down the M1 and this happened:

Its sheered off on the engine side of the centre section and i've never placed one of these before. I'm guessing as its sheered off that side and not the centre section side that its not JUST a case of replacing it with a new exhaust.

What do i need a new one of here? Manifold?

Soz if this is obvious and easy but complete newb.

    Cheers!

replace downpipe, job done. has it got the cat in the downpipe? if it has you may consider taking it off and getting it welded to save ££

downpipe, what gasket does that connect to?
  4. #4
that will most be the downpipe which come off the cat so it will be a new cat which will be about £100 if not more unless you can get a second hand one but will be about the same, mine did this on my straight thru gasflowed manifold i just welded it up and its been perfect ever since, you best bet is tp just weld it will be ALOT cheaper

    hope that helps, matt

jesus. yeah happened me me on 23rd going back to london. I jumped my battery 10 mins before and had no cable tie so had to pay... wait for it 132 quid to get it toed. No breakdown cover FTL.

Think im going to buy a whole new exhaust as well... may as well. To be honest I have no idea if i could even attempt to replace this myself. I have like ZERO knowledge.

becasue its going to cost a lot to fit a new downpipe with a cat in it, as said above it was £150 with discount cats are expensive... where you can get someone to weld it for a few pennies

yer mine was just before christmas, it was a fairly new gasflowed straight thru 4-2-1 manifold £164.99 new and the bbloody thing desided it wanted out and snapped in two in the middle off town so all plans ruened for that day and off to work striped manifold off and welded it all up and back on took me about an hour but is alot better haha

It only sounded odd 1 day before, I didn't think much off it as I hadn't driven it for a while (hence battery deadness) and was only driving it for like 5 mins.

The reason its broken is because I took it off to fit an exhaust that was the wrong model and in the process of discovering this have clearly cracked/damaged/etc the exhaust which over the course of about 3-4 months has finally given way.

Another expensive lesson learnt. I HATE NOT KNOWING ABOUT THIS STUFF ARGHHH!!!

Thanks for all your help btw guys. I'll see if i can purchase some bits from the forums and take her to a garage.

think mine might be on its way out, when i turn near full lock when goin slow i hear a metal click sound then my exhaust starts blowing louder. problem after problem with these cars.

If your cat is in the manifold then you need a new cat (which comes with the downpipe attached)
If your cat is under the cat then you need a new manifold.

Get a second hand one of whatever you need and then get a garage to fit if you are not confident enough to do it yourself.

As kitney says above though, could be a broken or insecure engine mount causing the exhaust to be pulled about more than it's meant to be. The idea of those spring you can see in the first picture are to allow the exhaust to move when you put your foot down so it should have enough give without snapping.

OK for anyone who is looking at this thread who has the same problem here's a list of exhaust systems for all saxo models so you can work out exactly what you need:

In my case, for a VTR MK2 01 plate, i need this part:

You need a new cat then mate

or an aftermarket manifold which replaces that part
