on a vtr Mark 2, is it recommended to flush existing oil out the engine with an agent, before replacing it with new stuff or just empty and re fill. Currently its got castrol magnetec in but I'm over due a service by quite a bit so I've decided to treat her doing a big service, I've got some Fuchs silkolene pro s to bung in. Along with some Fuchs sentapoid gearbox oil 75w 85w. Already done all brakes a week ago, their biting nicely. Also got all filters and plugs. She should run lovely after.

#2Some people will say no to it,but i`ve flushed an engine through before it was an engine out of a scrappy that I fitted though. It did get the engine running sweet.
-
#3if you normally keep servicing up to date like me i normally give the engine a flush every 3rd oil change with wynns engine flush http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wyn...w=1280&bih=905

#4When i looked into it i was advised to buy the cheapest new oil i could ie asda own, run that for a week then drain and put the new quality oil in..
-
#5Since I've had the car about two years ish I've had it serviced twice if i remember rightly. I'll check out the engine flush stuff. I would like to because as i say, I'm over due a service this time round

#6How does it work ? Just put it in with the oil ?
-
#7just run a hose through to flush it out
-
#12yes add it in with the oil run the car for about 30 minute idle or i just go for a 15/20 minute drive so nice and hot then drop the filter and oil plug and leave to drain for about 15/20 minutes then replace filter refit plug add new oil then the rest is obvious
-
#13As above & the stuff is good i`ve found.Quote:yes add it in with the oil run the car for about 30 minute idle or i just go for a 15/20 minute drive so nice and hot then drop the filter and oil plug and leave to drain for about 15/20 minutes then replace filter refit plug add new oil then the rest is obvious

#14A good tip after a headgasket fail where the oil is seriously like mayonaise is to add that agent, drain it and then fill back up with diesel oil, run for about 100-200 miles, it cleans the inside really well, then just drain and add normal oil
-
#15Thanks guys i think i might flush it then. Depends on how much the agent is. Just spent a wack on good oil and stuff.
-
#16Also if you`ve had the head skimmed its good practice to flush out the engine oil to get rid of any swarf.Quote:A good tip after a headgasket fail where the oil is seriously like mayonaise is to add that agent, drain it and then fill back up with diesel oil, run for about 100-200 miles, it cleans the inside really well, then just drain and add normal oil

#17fiver. Engine flush it is.
-
#18you put it into the old oil and go for a run.
however the problem with this engine flush is that it works too good.
it cleans off the gunk that your engine needs to stop it smoking ect.
however minigibbo is correct use some mineral oil run it for a week on that. allow it to drain fully and re-fill.
tbf it won't get that bad if you go over the service interval just allow it to drain fully. -
#19so you rekon just dont bother with the flush. I did read more into it and some people saying dont if its over 75K. My engines on 65k. I just wanted the fully synthetic to be fresh in their and not mix too much with the old Castrol
-
#20just let it drain untill it's not dripping. tbf you'll still have around 0.25-0.5 ltr of old oil in there anyway put the flush in and that will stay in there aswell. .
ofcouse you could take the sump off and clean it out that way.
use some cheap mineral oil change after a week and then use your good stuff will be fine then -
#21I did it, and my car had done over 100K. no problems at all
i added engine flush to the oil. took her for a spin (30 mins) mixed driving, (RPM, speed), and i had no problems. i would do it if i was you. but please use a trusted brand...

#22i would flush it myself. and i have before. seemed to help it
got rid of all the oil. there was almost nothing left, normally there is some left. it costs a fiver and it basic design is to thin the oil to make it easier to drain and too remove all the lumps/deposits of oil lying around.

#23for a fiver it seems worth it. I might just get a tin of wynns, run it with it in for half hour as stated above and see how i get on. The best oils going straight in after any way so it should be ok.

#24i had a big bottle of asdas own oil (cheap). i emptied old oil out. filled with asda stuff. let that oil warm up, drain that. repeated it until i used all the asda stuff and the oil was nice and clear that came out. filled up with casteral and job was a gud'n. car had been neglected by previous owner too. the amount of black lumps that came out was unreal.1 user thanked this post:
