Bad Oil leak from my sump....

  1. #1
Have noticed an oil patch under my saxo for a few weeks now slowly getting bigger,so after cleaning under the engine and sump found it was dripping from the sump flanged area some of the old sealent has come off and leaking in a few places.
So have decided to sort the leak as the car is not needed till tuesday.

After doing a search on here it looks like there is not a gasket just sealent?, as i dont have a haynes manual to assist in the removal, apart from the sump bolts to remove is there anything that needs removing.

I guess a few on here have removed the sump,so a quick step by step would be appreciated.

you will need to remove your exhaust downpipe, as well as the flywheel cover(held on by 2 bolts)

just sealant thats used mate. make sure you get it on axle stands though/jacked up safely. iirc they are 8mm bolts holding sump on, a few of them aswel.

Well it sounds straight forward, a few bolts and the exhaust down pipe not to bad.

Does the gasket sealent need 24hrs to cure before filling with oil?

im not to sure how long, i left mine overnight, started it midday took 2hours ish as i work pretty slowly - i try not to break anything lol, then just put it back together and filled it with oil next day. defo needs some time to dry - should say on the intructions of the sealant your using.

yea easy enough - messy though

Yes just checked on the box needs 24hrs to cure before filling with oil.
Is the exhaust easy to remove or a pain in the butt?
