service for my Mark two vtr, in the Birmingham Area. I have all the parts needed. Oil filter, engine oil, gear box oil, plugs etc. Just wonderin if anyone is spare over this week end to do it for a fee of course. I dont have the correct tools to hand to do it myself but just want to get it done. Gazer usually helps but he's busy doing some work on his mod'd bimmer.

#2how much you willing to pay?
-
#3Well Thats kinda another question Whats it likely to cost. I know experts Can have it done in no time. But forty quid for an hour labour just for a service is a lot. Didnt really want to go that steep. Would probably make more sense to spend that on tools and do it myself.
-
#4If you dont have the tools then i'd get some, you'll have them for life. I'd offer but my sax is going to be taken apart this weekend in the garage so no room
-
#5Yeah Thats probably best option! No worries man Thanks. I wonder if Theres a kit out there that has all bits I'll need to service my vtr.
-
#6Just get a halfords advanced tool kit. Everything you'll need and more.
-
#7+1 on getting the tools, don't need alot to do a service & you'll have them next time aswell then
-
#9The only bit that won't be in the Halfords box is the gearbox drain plug key. Grab one of the long funnels for refilling it too.
The Halfords boxes are well worth the investment mate :-) -
#10They're about £100 so not cheap. But they include open and ring spanners, different sized ratchet spanners plus spark plug sockets and screwdriver sets.
Expensive, but if you went to a garage for all the little jobs that these tools allow you to do, it'll cost a fortune so the kit pays for itself. -
#11Yeah i Can understand that. Not sure whether i have hundred pound at the min. I'll consult my dad lol rob any tools off him if he has some. Other than that its local garage job till i have money for tools. I do have some but not things like the spark plug socket and What not.

#12Pm on it's way to you mate :-)
-
#13is there any other places to get one from a little cheaper. Just What ill need to do service. I do Have Spanners.
-
#15i have spark plug sockets oil filter is easy i dont think i have the size allen key for sump though
-
#17you'll also need a 27mm socket + extension for the oil filter if its the cartridge type.
would have done it for you myself for a few quid if you were closer.
what you need is a set that has
1x spark plug socket.
1x universal joint
1x ratchet
3x extension bars of vairing sizes
1x 27mm deep socket. (for cartridge oil filter)
1x 24mm socket (for sump bung)
few philips screw drivers (for air filter) -
#18The sump on the early mk1's was a square section socket. Not sure if it's the same for the mk2 but I had to buy the socket especially for the job. Other than that, save up for a decent tool kit, get an oil filter chain tool and that's all I've used for 5 years. Oh and invest in a decent jack and axle stands. I've come very close to death before because of jack failure.
-
#19the mk2 has this also but it's within the bolt if you get what i mean you have the choice of using either the 5mm square socket or the 24mm socket.Quote:The sump on the early mk1's was a square section socket. funny how the mk1's are only the square or even how it varies to peugeot. and i serviced a 2000 w plate 206. (spin on oil filter) and it were the same 24mm+ 5mm square socket combo. -
#20To be honest mate it could well have been both. I think I just gave in and went to buy the square section to save time!
-
#21Can just imagine What you mean mate. With your head stuck under car. Comical but serious. I have ( in my tool bag ) all Torx sizes on a flip out handle. Spanners from about 7mm ish upwards some screw drives mainly small ones as I'm an i.t engineer. I have sockets but the actual tool broke. All the stuff suitable for my car was given to me by my dad a while back but it was all cheap bits for tiny odd jobs for my car. Plenty of wd40 for some reason lol.Quote:The sump on the early mk1's was a square section socket. Not sure if it's the same for the mk2 but I had to buy the socket especially for the job.
