Important! : Alternator belt tension 16v

  1. #1
Bought another alternator the day, fitted it, belt on but now im having problems tensioning the belt. The 2 bolts are slackened as it says, but when you wind the tensioner bolt anti clockwise which is the right way to give the belt more tension, it does fuck all

When you wind the bolt clockwise it does what it should do and brings the tensioner pulley away from the belt, thus making it looser.

Am i missing something here? Any body else had this problem?

    Cheers

Doing exactly the same as in this guide. However when i turn the bolt anitclockwise i can keep doing so until the bolt comes right out without moving the pulley up at all

Sounds like you're doing it right. Only thing I can suggest is try unscrewing the two bolts a bit more, then physically push/ lever the tensioner up towards the belt.

Cheers. In the end i did exactly this. Tensioner bolt isnt even there now. As you said I physically pushed the tensioner pulley up until the i had the right tension and did up the 2 bolts. Seems fine now. Fuck knows how that tensioner bolt actually works!

It's quite common for the tensioner bolt to snap. I'm thinking yours might have snapped and is now shorter than normal? But yeah, the bolt is just there to keep the tensioner in position while you tighten the two bolts up.

Yeh i thought that but it didnt look like it had snapped, maybe its been played with before and someones put in a shorter bolt or something. O well found a new method and seems to work haha
