Sh*t Brakes

  1. #1
I have a few problems with my brakes and im guessing they are all symptoms of one faulty component.

1.My Brake pedal has a fair bit of travel in it before the brakes are engaged. However this excess travel varies depending on how often they have been used previous.

2.If i press the brakes, and bring the car to a stop but keep my foot on the brake pedal it slowly travels further down (like brake fluid is leaking out) But their isnt any visible leaks anywhere on the car.

    3. This may just be me but sometimes it feels like the fron tbrakes are doing more then the back and other times it feels like the back is braking harder then the front.

Im thinking possibly the rubber seals in the master cylinder and/or servo but want to make sure before i buy the parts.

    Any ideas?

I have more or less the same thing happening to mine apart from when you mentioned the fact that when you stop it seems like it is losing brake fluid. The fronts are doing the majority of the braking for me. Mine are also warped.... I think a full brake service will have to be done, but I want to have a go at them myself!

The brakes are fairly simple to service, Thats why this problem is annoying me so much.

It may also be worth mentioning that i have serviced the front calipers and recently replaced the disks and pads. I aslo have new brake shoes on the back, again, i cleaned and greased all moving parts.

Probably just needs new fluid put in. Over time air and moisture (water) can leak into the lines hence why you get the increase pedal movement and the performance is reduced.

When you bleed them after make sure all the air is definitely out

Ah ok, I assumed because it was a sealed system it would be fine, But i gues it does make sence. I will make that my next port of call. Thanks

Check your flexi hoses, I had one that was swelling and giving that pedal "sink" and then it burst on me

also check the adjustment of the linkage from pedal to master cylinder
