VTS Oil Cooler Leaking?

  1. #1
    Hello

I had a new engine fitted by Mandyslover on Friday but there is an oil leak from the oil cooler which sits behind the oil filter and is attached to the block.

Jason is sending me the seal and the bolt which screws into the block and I would prefer to fix it myself instead of taking it to a garage.

Now I know I need to remove the oil filter and this will leave me with a thread and behind that will be the cooler and im assuming a seal of some sort behind that?

Is it just a case of unscrew filter, undo the bolt which holds the cooler to the block (spanner?) and then just replace the seal?

    Cheers

the seal is similar to an oil filter seal, as i said on the phone earlier, just whip the filter off, unscrew the threaded boss, pull the cooler forward and pop new seal in and re-assemble. just put a drip tray under it as there will be some oil in there!

Right I removed the filter and pulled the cooler forward.

The rubber seal seemed to be intact with no damage that I could see.

The bolt which holds the threaded boss to the block seems to be set back into a recess so I can't see how im going to unscrew it without taking the whole cooler off as there is only about an inch of room between the cooler and the block which would normally be fine if the bolt wasn't set back into the recess.

The cooler won't come off without removing the manifold which I don't really want to do.

Argh, why did I buy another French car

Yeah I think the manifold is going to have to come off in order to completely remove the cooler which will allow access to that bolt which is set back into a recess.

I cleaned the rubber seal and pushed the cooler back tight onto the block and then stuck a spare filter I had on and really did it up right so it forces the cooler to be tight against the block.....though I had sort it but after about 60 seconds of idling the drips started lol

Im tempted to let a garage do it mate, I haven't got the time or paitence to do it myself at the moment. Im working overtime all this weekend so will have to book it in with a garage at some point.

Sorted, Jason came down and fitted a new bolt and seal and the leak has gone
