best way to paint dashboard

   Im going to pick up a spare dashboard in the next day or two. The plan is to smooth and paint it. Just wondering the best way to go about it?
   
   Sand the textured surface smooth, prime paint
   
   Or
   
   Small skim of filler sand prime and paint

   Wash the dash with thinners all over. Then sand the full lot with 150 sand paper until texture has gone.. Plastic prime the dash then let dry. Spray the full lot with re-surfacer flat this with 240 wet an dry until smooth (use a guide coat). Then prime with a decent primer filler then flat that with 800 wet and dry paper (use the guide coat again) and your ready for painting. Then paint as normal.
   
   Edit :- you can use filler on top of the texture if you like but make sure you plastic prime the dash first. But unless you use filler a lot and can get it on as smooth as butter you will just make a hell of a lot of work. Id advise the re-surfacer as said above.

   ok cool thanks what is re-surfacer? I normally mix some filler with resin to thin the filler down. Makes sanding abit more difficult but i normally get a smooth finish when doing sub boxes etc.

   Painted dash's are a pain in the arse in the summer. The glare from the sun is unbareable.

   make sure you strip the dash out the car even though this is pretty straight forwardl ol

   resurfacer is basically a spray on filler that is about 4 times as thick as primer filler mate I'll link you up when I get home.

    the only problem I have had with them is the gloss black ones seem to crack with the heat and sun after a while.

    Re-surfacer. This is the stuff i use mate you will also need This just remember to use a really high quality plastic primer. Also a flex additive in the clear coat so if the dash does get hot and expand it wont crack your paint.
