i thought my alternator had gone. went to fix it.
i was trying to get the belt off and relized the bottom pully is wobbleing and spinng freely. has it got a peice of rubber round it.
is this a common thing that goes on these?
and would that cause the power steering to stop working

The power steering is electric and its pump is located passenger side so that wont be affecting it. Do you mean the crankshaft pulley is wobbling about?

yer i can pull it away from the engine and the centre stays attached.
would this cause the power steering to stop working as the alternator aint spinning.
i was told the steering works off the alternator.
    im all confused lol

The power steering is not operated by the alternater belt, it is electrically operated from a pump the other side of the engine like said post above, its the actual pulley that is worn mate, they have a rubber centre that goes, i would get it changed asap and do cambelt and water pump while your there.

    useful post there..

Any way get some pics of them crank aux pulley, you shouldnt be able to pull it about like you are able to - its held onto the cambelt pulley on the crankshaft by 3 bolts
