my car never, or rarely starts first time, instead it just makes a noise like fuel priming, someone said that it may actually be working but its not connecting to the flywheel, its the exact same noise as when you put fuel in at a petrol station, like a brrr noise, what would fix this, a new motor, or ring gear??
starter motor, or ring gear?

#2ive got starter motors here for cheap if you want one

#4£15 delivered

#5It may have the dowel missing causing it to pull away from the flywheel, chances are if you can hear it running but not turning the crank that's the problem. If you can, take the starter off and make sure there is a dowel present.

#6not gonna lie and think im smart, so whats a dowel ?
-
#7It locates the starter so it sits in the right place, sits between the starter and the gearbox and one of the bolts goes through it

#8They look like this
-
#9do i have to remove anything to get to the starter motor?
-
#10It's at the back of the engine, I normally have aid of a ramp lol, you'll have to remove the air filter from the throttle body, removing battery will help too. There's one 13mm bolt at the top and two from under the car (may be able to get round the back of the engine with a spanner)1 user thanked this post:
