Black top engine.....

Hello, I have a 1997 MK1 VTR and have the black top engine. Apparently the black top is best to modify because it reacts to the mods better. Can someone explain why? Also what kind of cheap mods could I do to notice any power difference?

Incorrect. The silver top has an extra 8bhp straight away and is there for the better option.

Tuning wise you could fit a 4-2-1 mani and good exhaust system plus induction kit. You might see 110bhp then with a remap.

For the price above though, you could get a 50k vts engine and probs all the bits. That's an instant 30bhp over what your running now.... Much better idea. If you can do it yourself ofc.

The black top has harder valve springs so it can take a higher rev limit safely. I believe the head flows better but the best standard one you can fit is a rallye/xsi one with its J came (or indeed, fit a more lairy cam). I'd pick one of those over silvertop any day

As above the black top is a stronger engine mate.

Thanks for the replies Hmm a vts engine would be good, but for now an exhaust, mani and a good induction setup is all I can afford
