We to reverse my car off te drive earlier today and the back left wheel was effectively stuck and wouldn't turn, any thoughts on what it could be?

    Stuck brake caliper

Jack the car up and give the drum a tap to try and release it.

It's a 1.4 so it wont have callipers. It'll have drums.

    a) Either your drums are seizing, this could be because of handbrake cables or rusty brake components.

    b) One of the liners has come off a shoe.

Either way, your rear brakes need a service.

jack up, wheel off and give the hub a good bashing see if it works
Once unsiezed would be worth taking the drum off to check anything on the insides for a reason its malfunctioning

as kris says, drum braked saxos/106s are prone to the friction lining coming off the shoes and jamming a wheel, usually when you reverse as the rotation of the drum forces the floating piece of material under the other shoe.

put a chisel into the drum and tap with a hammer, get someone else to reverse very slowly while doing it

Please dont put a chisel into your drum and tap it.

You can give the drum a clout all round with a hammer on the outside to free it up but i wouldnt want to drive the car until the brakes have been looked at. Various reasons, including safety and cost.

    +1 to kris.

remove the wheel and give the drum a huge whack with a hammer. @ 12- 3-6-9 (imagin a clock face)

    this should release it
