Buying a Saxo

I'm looking at buying a VTR. Can anyone tell me what the common faults are to look out for?

Rust under the ECU and around there tbh
    Camberd axel
    Boot rust

I'll have to have a good look then. My mate might be selling me his VTR. It's been lowered, has an induction kit and back box on it.

    Sticking rear calipers
    Over heating
Leaky sunroof (check footwell for damp)
    Tappy engine
    Rust
    Check it's been serviced regularly

Rust is the main one to look for and obviously the usuall knocks and axle camber as already mentioned

I shall make sure i look out for all of those things then (:

+ check when the cambelt was last done,& a check of the colour of the engine oil will be a good pointer as to whether its been looked after.

knockin on the wheels and / or when steering

driveshafts go quite regularly on the heavy-footed.. anythin from £60-£90 for a new'un fitted

check the exhaust for anythin that looks like white paste.. usually a sign the exhaust is getting rusted-rotten so they patch the wholes and gaps in the joins up with a sealant...
if this is the case take into account the cost of a new exhaust.. me and a couple of other people have had exhausts fall off / start blowing cos of this type of bodge.
£180 for a new standard exhaust fitted at a garage..

see if theres any obvious pull to eitherside when driving, if its been lowered the trackin could be out..
usually about £30 to have reset near me..

these are problems iv had in the past

when you check for rust in the back..lift up the carpet in the boot and have a good feel around the arches and see if the bottom of the carpet is damp..

you can do the same for the front arches too.. just inside the door in the footwells

if the drivers seat feels like a rockin chair check the state of the bolts on the sub frames.. you dont want to be in a loose seat should you have a bump

never buy any bullshit about lights that may be on on the dashboard either..

Check how the temp goes up/down as it could be a sensor (im told) or HG. < worst case (im in that atm)
