Important! : No Power steering Adds bhp ? HELP !!!!!

  1. #1
Hello people I have heard that by disconnecting the power steering pump it can add up to 10bhp ? I am very sceptical on this and have searched other websites and getting a lot of people saying yes and a lot saying no.

Can anybody help me with this ? and tell me if it does help the bhp or just makes steering really really hard !

    Thanks.

Load of tosh, people strip it out to lose a bit of weight, thats all.

It won't add any bhp as such, the engine will still produce the same amount of power.

However the power steering is being powered by the engine, (Or the battery powering the motor in this case) causing a load and therefore if you take the PAS off, that load is reduced.

Think of it like a sprinter with a weight strapped to him. He's going to be just as powerful without that weight than he was before, but he'll be able to move quicker and use his power more effectively.

Its a parasitic loss. The engine makes a certain amount of power. Some of that is used in rotating its own parts. The power steering pump is one of those things but you are talking 1 or 2 bhp really.

Is the saxo one not electric anyway? That means the alternator is the direct issue. You could gear down the alternator pulley to reduce load, or remove the powersteering so there is not so much drain on the electrics
