another starter problem

   saxo vtr
   52 plate phase 2.
   
   engine wont turn over or turns over very slow when trying to start sometimes it will start sometimes it wont usually from knocking ignition off and on. starter motor isnt makeing a clicking noise tried braying it with a hammer and no joy.
   
   any ideas i am not sure what problems a starter motor has i thought it just clicked when it was fucked battery is fine so im lost anyone know?? is the starter motor worth changeing?

   Clean up the connections on the starter motor 1st mate.

   that was really hard to read, comma's and full stops are very helpful
