Issues after fitting a 4-2-1 manifold

    Hi all,

my mate fitted a raceland 4-2-1 manifold to my 106 GTI this weekend.

I bought the manifold second hand and it came with a lambda sensor. We were unable to remove my lambda from the standard manifold so just chucked the new mani with the existing sensor on.

The car now occasionally has flatspots when driving...when it will bog down then suddenly spring into life when on the throttle.

Is this a problem that could be associated with a dodgy lambda sensor?

Or could it be that the manifold is blowing...I can't quite tell by listening to it at idle, found the pugsports and decatted exhausts on these cars always sound blowy anyway but when booting it I can hear a lot more exhaust noise from the front...could this be blowing or is this perfectly normal?

    Many thanks again,

    Alex

Has your EML come on mate?

    No mate.

In my experience, you do hear a bit more of a 'blowing' noise with an aftermarket exhaust mani - probably due to them being thinner than the standard cast iron jobbie?

I'd start with changing the lambda. Get some heat on your original sensor and it should come out a bit easier.

Makes sense mate...just wondered if that extra noise was normal or whether it was blowing hideously at the manifold join!

Should just be a case of swapping the lambda over then, is there a special tool for it?

You can get sockets with a cut out so you can get it past the wires but a 22mm spanner will do the job if they're not too tight
