Engine rattle and loss of power

I've done some research on here and found the symptoms are pretty much leading to big end/main shaft bearings. What I'm wandering is that people were saying get a new engine, but it's not really much of a job to change the bearings, what I'm wandering is, can it cause bigger problems, like scoring the crankshaft? And has anyone had any issues doing it? Thanks

O and forgot to say, it's a vts. Thanks

Have you got plenty of oil in the engine & when was the oil last changed? As this can cause an engine to rattle due to low oil pressure.

If it's the big end bearings it depends how bad they are, if they've picked up on the crank then it'll need to be reground.

As said it'll depend how its been run and in what condition/amount of oil and pressure. Cheaper to fit a second hand bottom end if its a known "good one"

The oil was changed about 3 weeks ago. By the sounds of it it does sound pretty horrendous and doesn't sound like oil will make the noise go. So I'm gonna strip it down over the weekend and see if there's anything obvious. Any tests you can do to help find out which bearing it is before stripping it down? Or is it just a case of stripping it down and having an inspection?. Thanks for the replies

its normal to find this after an engine oil, as new oil is much thinner than the old oil. especially if you used a thinning agent to get rid of the lumps of oil before the change.

O right, so would thicker oil get rid of the noise? Taaa

its not normal to have this after an oil change, what grade of oil are you using? if its the correct grade than you have a mechanical problem - a thicker oil isnt going to benefit you

    castrol syntec 10/40

Thats the correct grade then, whats symptoms do you have?

Engine just rattles really loudly and gets louder with the accelerator wing pushed. And there's no power. I havnt been driving it since the night it started making the noises, I'm just trying to figure what it is before stripping it down. Thanks
