  1. #1
Lucky for me my head gasket has just started going.. ive got the following too do the job so far

One grandad who has been in the mechanics trade for years
Full gasket kit and head bolts
    New oil and filter
    New antifreeze
    Timing lock pins
    New cambelt and water pump
    And my trusty haynes manual..

Is there anything im going to need that i havent already got? and is there anything i should know about when changing the headgasket on my 1.4 furio, cheers guys any hints and stuff would be appreciated.

should be it IIRC aslong as you got all the tools for the job
  3. #3
Them parts will do the job, but remember you may need to get the head skimmed if it has warped.

Thanks for the quick replies , pretty sure it wont be warped as its never overheated, and there isnt a tool my grandad doesnt have in his garage, apart from if there is any citroen specific tools i will need that anyone knows about?

personally whilst you are there i would change the spark plugs.

nah there won't be any Citroen specific, only tools that you'll need that a typical non mechanic might not have is a Torque wrench and a tool for measure the angle you've turned the head bolts for the second stage of tightening them

Ive got a torque wrench , with tightening the head bolts you move out in a spiral sort of shape yes? also they get tightened to a specific torque then you go second time around to tighten them to the full torque? correct me if im wrong

Headbolts will first be done to a certain Torque, generally about 25Nm then the next part will be done to a certain angle such as 220 degrees. But yes do them in a spiral motion starting from the middle

Thankyou , last question, reckon this gasket set will do the job? ive heard loads about cheap ones just going straight away but the head gasket in this one looks fairly decent (this is the one ive bought) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAD-GASKE...item1c22932ff2

iirc autodata is wrong for the alloy blocks as iirc it's 240 degrees on the second stage

    haynes will tell you
it's the cast block that has 3 stages

Okay so it turns out im going to have to somehow get the car 300 miles up north from here.. the headgasket is liturally just starting to go its losing next to no water but the gunk on the oil filler cap seems to gain more everyday and there is more smoke from the exhaust everyday as well, do you reckon i'll be able to drive it up there without causing any damage too the engine? the car drives fine Cheers guys

Really could do with help on this as i am clueless

personally i would get it towed... but you cant do much more damage providing if it does overheat you turn the engine off and wait for it too cool for a sufficient time. personally not worth the risk, but if it is your only option, then do it. but be careful and there is a change of engine failure if it does go wrong!

Its never overheated before, if there is any sign of it getting hot i'll pull over i guess, cheers..

I know i said last question but just got my gasket set and stuff in post..
the engine bolts say engine code TU9 on it and the gasket set says TU1M

im pretty sure the TU9 is the 1.0? will they fit my 1.4? it said they would on the information for it.

and what engine is the TU1M? haha cheers

according to google, TU9 is ok for 1.4's, and TU1M is 1.1 also good for 1.4

Thankyou for the reassurance rather not take everything apart to find nothing fits or put stuff on too drive 1000miles and have stuff start going again
