Temp Light

  1. #1
my temperature light keeps coming on and steam coming out of the bonnet with the fan running really loud, this has only happened in the past few days, the cap for the water part of it had blew off so ive replaced that, no change, ive replaced the thermostat, no change. Can anybody help me with this problem?
  2. #2
Try bleeding the coolant system,if theres no change then get your cooling system pressure tested.
  3. #3
wouldnt this have been done when i put in new thermostat as all the water and coolant poured out? or is there something on the actual engine to bleed??
  4. #4
fill with coolant and leave cap off and run the engine until warm then fill with more coolant as needed. Self bleeding coolant system as engine runs. If overheating is constant, it may be worth checking head gasket so milky gloop in oil or frothy coolant. Have you checked all over for any leaks?

yeah you have air in the system bleed it up and should be okay there are 3 bleed points 1 near ecu looks like a dustcap another on the thermo housing and another one on the top right hand side of the rad

    WTF! Don't do this!!!!

It's not a self bleeding system at all, there's 3 bleed nipples along the coolant route that you need to open to release the air from the system. Failure to do so will cause air locks which lead to overheating which can prove terminal.

is mine not standard then? theres an overflow reservior leading into the coolant system
  8. #8
should engine be running with all caps off? when is it fully bled?
  9. #9
ignore my comment then, it may appear my cooling system isnt standard, i dont know the history of the cooling system on my car, although it doesnt overheat so im not complaining

It might well be different on the 1.1 models. I've only ever worked on Vtr's, VTs's and furio's which all had bleed nipples.

no they all have 3 bleed points
  13. #13
mine has bleed nipples and its 1.1 forte what do i do to bleed? ive taken off the caps, do i run the engine? what should i be seeing? please help as i need car foir work tonight
  14. #14
    Put coolant in car.
Run the car with all of the bleed points closed.
Open the first bleed nipple until running water comes out with no air bubbles.
    Shut the nipple off
Open the next one and repeat.
Repeat process on all 3 then top up the water.

Job's a good'n. Oh and make sure your heaters are on full heat and blowers.

Just so i get this right.

    I fill up with coolant
    i run the engine
turn off engine and open first bleed nipple?
    then repeat?

Keep the engine running throughout the whole exercise.
  17. #17
    should i just follow this?

Yeah, or take it to a garage.

I think you're making it seem more difficult than it is. It's literally a 5 minute job that shouldn't cause any problems.
  19. #19
well ive been told by a garage not to have the engine running, and some things on here say to leave it running and some dont, thats where the confusion is coming from
  20. #20
What?? You need the engine running to make the water pump do it's job.

Without the engine running you won't have water flowing through the pipes therefore the air can't escape. Who told you that??
  21. #21
    A garage in grimsby
  22. #22
    Never go there again lol

You don't need to have the engine running when you top the coolant up. But of course you need it running to bleed the system.
  23. #23
okay thanks a lot im going to try this now
  24. #24
    Remember heaters on full blast!!
  25. #25
this looks like its going to go really well or really badly...

    New thread:

"I'VE GOT 3RD DEGREE BURNS ALL OVER MY BODY DUE TO HOLDAWAYT"

    I can see it now.

Haha nearly did but it went alright I had an issue with the bleed point on the radiator as couldn't get it off but got everything flowing on the other, took for a drive and it was fine, will see properly when take it to work tomorrow

the bleed point on the radiator sometimes can be a pain. i get mole grips/pliers onto it and its much easier

Good lad, glad it all worked out.

I had a similar problem with the rad bleed point. You'll probably find the heaters and car water temp will warm up much quicker now as well.
  30. #30
Yeah they do, ive been running it today with heaters on and stuff to see if the light came on so at the minute looking like it was a success
  31. #31
Okay so this has happened again after days of it running fine its happened. I looked under bonnett and there is water all over the left side. When I pulled over you could heat water bubbling. Is this a garage job?
  32. #32
lol ive got similar problem with temperature rising and random cold hot air spirts been bleeding the system but still lots of air hoping its the thermostat if not head gasket AND who ever said to bleed with the engine off needs shooting and not the rights to run a garage :@
