weird noise still there even tho just had clutch changed??

  1. #1
as above i have just had my clutch replaced because there was a weird noise (sounds like a seal lol).

i asked on here and everyone said it sounds like a clutch release bearing. i had my clutch changed for a valeo one and just got the car back from the garage but the noise is still there.

i took the car back to the garage and the guy said he thinks it might be the gear box.

    what do you think please?
  2. #2
can you explain the sound? where its coming from? give us something to go on.
  3. #3
it happened on the motorway befor xmas then went away and now its back.

it happens when i am driving and lift of the accelerator. it sounds like its coming from the engine bay (at the drivers side the gf says) its goes away when i put the accelerator back on. only really happens over 25ish. the sound is hard to describe :/

best i can describe really. i know its not much to go on sorry
  4. #4
is the noise really loud? is it in a certain gear? , could you get someone to take a video while you drive?
  5. #5
its different levels each time sometimes loud sometimes not. when i first heard it i thought it was something rubbing on the wheel. ill go for a drive now and try and record it
  6. #6
dont record it while driving. you could kill someone else...
  7. #7
got a video now ill upload it to youtube and post the link
  8. #8

    thats link to video
  9. #9
starts going really bad at about 27 seconds
  10. #10
    anyone??
  11. #11
sounds like the wheel is rubbing? is it just while driving? or is it also as you rev the engine?
  12. #12
no just when driving. it squeaks when turning but dont know if that is another problem or if it links into the same thing?
  13. #13
driveshaft intermediate bearing bud i had the same noise (sounds like chewbacca!) only happens when you dip the clutch or let off accelerator.
its on the drivers side driveshaft and is easier to replace the whole shaft tbh!

But did they just change the clutch? as the release bearing is separate...
  18. #18
Release bearing comes in the kit.

My money is on the bearing in the shaft as said.
  19. #19
got the 3 piece valeo kit so ill try drive shaft n ext see if that fixes it if not it back to the drawing board :/
  20. #20
when the noise comes into the car did you try clutching in to see if it goes out of it, that would rule out the box? it sounds a bit like air coming into the car aswell, i had a xantia that would make a noise somthing like that out of the heater blower when driving at certain speeds, plus the blower is on the drivers side of the saxo
  21. #21
or are any of the windscreen seals damaged or anything?

    no dont think so. :s
  23. #23
this has just started on my car today the same thing .. if i take it to the garage in the morning what is it doing it and how much to repair ? just so i dont get ripped off lol
  24. #24
Had a friends car make the exact same noise, was his drive shaft, we packed it with some grease for a short fix and it went away hasn't come back since,

I'd Definatley reccomend changing the Driveshaft though not a massive job and gives you piece of mind
  25. #25
im trying to find out same lol just had clutch kit fitted and wasnt that so dont go forking out £340 to have it fixed like i did

if you find out in morning id love to know
  26. #26
mine had a new clutch fitted in november last year so it aint clutch i watched the video on the first page and the noise from my car is exact the same as that one im presuming from comments it is the intermediate bearing on the right driveshaft ..which unfortunatly means absolutly nothing to me :/ think the part is about 70 from europarts no idea how much to fit though so if there is any mechanics on here give me a shout lol
  27. #27
i have been quoted £180 to supply and fit both sides. is that reasonable or is it a hard job to do? also is it best to buy new ones at £70 a side or second hand ones for £60/70 for the pair?
  28. #28
I use to have the exact same noise, my dad greased something on the driveshaft and it went away. I still need a new driveshaft but atleast that fucking noise has gone for now.
  29. #29
the noise gets so f**king annoying its untrue lol
  30. #30
think i might do that ... as long as the wheels dont come off or steering goes while im driving :/ and probs be better getting them new ... the second hand ones may of had the same problem previously
  31. #31
    yeah was thinking that.

anyone know were you pack the grease? ill do that and if it works then i know its that
  32. #32
lol your asking the wrong person with me ... im blonde :/ haha ... but i could do with knowing where you put it too .. and where do you get grease from .. only grease i know of is the stuff that gets all over when ur frying stuff lol
  33. #33
lol was aiming that at louisuk.
  34. #34
lol sorry ... you did say anyone ....
  35. #35
    oh yeah my bad

Thats a decent price for supply and fitting, cost me £60 or £70 a side from local motorfactors and that was the cheapest i could find for decent ones.

changing them was a real ball ache for simon and his mate, i just sat their and watched.

Wouldnt bother with second hand driveshafts, youll just end up buying a set again later, driveshafts i always do both sides at same time, even if just ones fooked.
  37. #37
yeah was thinking getting new ones, but going to grease up cv joints first see if it stops or helps and then ill know if its cv joints.
  38. #38
Mines making the same noise, been told its drive shaft, gearbox bearings, clutch bearing or something rubbing so hoping to find out exactly before i start replacing things and spend all my money

i have been told all that aswell so had clutch changed and wasnt that

if its gearbox bearings is that a replaceable or is it a new/second hand gearbox?
  40. #40
what make of clutch / thrust bearing did you have fitted?
  41. #41
Jack up Drivers side (quite high)
    Remove wheel
    Remove Driveshaft bolt
    Remove bottom ball joint bolt
    Remove Intermediate bearing bolts - 2x 11mm
    Undo Drop link
    Undo Track rod end
Pull shaft out - if your jacked up high enough then no gearbox oil should come out.

Really reluctant to spend any money unless i know it will sort it. And gearbox bearings means need new gearbox unless fancy stripping it down and refurbing it

  48. #48
when it started was just when accelerating but now its on and off whether im braking dipping clutch or drifting ect. i have had my brakes and discs changed couple weeks ago. ill wait till it stops raining and whack a load of grease in it.

is it just copper grease i need??
  49. #49
it was the driveshafts if anyone wanted to know lol
