faulty throttle body

ok so ive seen a few threads on here regarding my problem, basically ive got a saxo 1.1i r reg, and randomly itll lose power, no response from throttle and last night it cut out completely whilst under power, had to turn off ignition and restart engine whist driving lol, anyway had it diagnosed by a mechanic, says its a faulty sensor in the throttle body, he said we could change it, but it be better to change full throttle body , im not too fussed either way hes only charging 20 quid to fit a new one, but what im wondering is this what could be causing it , or is there something else i can try first, it was also coming up with an error for the o2 sensor, which the mechanic thinks there could also be a faulty lambda sensor..

so basically is he right in what hes saying dont wanna get it changed then it makes no difference

the ecu thinks that there is more or less air going in than there is, and tells the engine to fuel to the air that it thinks is going in, it could be one or the other but generally mechanics see lambda sensor and maf sensor and change that as well... easy money for customers ignorance, where abouts you live, ill be able to tell you what one is at fault...
