De-Cat Question ¬_¬

  1. #1
Ok Got the deposit down on my vtr, getting her at the weekend

Probably going to go for a saxsport 2'' with decat, just a thought though, obviously for MOT and stuff you need a cat, on kamracing I saw a janspeed 4-2-1 mani with sports cat, for MOT, Can i just literally add the Sports Cat to the Decat pipe or does the whole system need to be replaced?

    - Sorry for the extremely stupid question but with cars, Mechanically-wise I'm useless!

it depends if the decat and sports cat are welded to the pipe then a whole centre pipe will need to be done but of you can remove the cat/decat as a single unit you can just swap around

thats the mani and cat obvs the cat is not welded there, below is the exhaust system, does anyone know if the cat would be a straight swap?

The downpipe of the sports cat will connect to the Saxsport, no need to mess about.

Personally I would just get an aftermarket manifold and stick the standard cat back on come MOT time. Would be £200-£300 cheaper and not exactly hard.

Do you think a sports cat is going to make as bigger difference and no cat?? Personally i think id be decatting and having a nice chat with the mot station...

So when ordering, Should i be ordering the Straight through system with de-cat and purchase the sports cat to go onto it? Or should i be purchasing the cat back system and put the sports cat on, surely thats a lot quieter? I'm So confused haha

Get the decat and stright through and when the mot comes, just put your orignal cat back on for an hour.......

Yeah, Im just really useless at that stuff which would mean I pay each time, is it hassle to get on and off?

These are general rules, there are a few exceptipns...

If you have a Mk1 VTR then the Cat is under the car so can be swapped out easily.

If you have a Mk2 VTR then the cat forms part of the manifold so you would need to remove the manifold and refit the old one (and the cat as part of it)

LONG - Basically, best option like mentioned would be either get the straight through de-cat and keep the old cat-back to swap over with the old mani ORRRRRRRRRR

Purchase the Catback or Straight through de-cat? and purchase the 4-2-1 mani and sports cat, my other question, can the Sports cat with new mani be added to the de-cat to make it road legal or would I have to purchase the cat-back version and then obv add the mani and sports cat
