port/polish inlet and outlet

i have a vtr engine waiting to be put in but was told by a mate whilst its out then to port polish the exhaust manifold and inlet on the block.
he basically said put the exhaust gasket onto the block and mark off where the holes on the gasket go and open the ports on the block with a dremal to them marks. he said do the same for the inlet. he says it will increase power slightly.

is he talking bollox or is this true but its a botch method.......
can anyone enlighten me on this

Theory is correct but id never do that tbh, its abit pikey. A good port and polish can be well over £500 mainly because there is alot of skill required to get it correct. Just hacking a load of material out of the head wont necesserily make it better.

cheers mate thats what i though. just to do the exhaust and inlet ports though would there be a decent gain?
i know gains are different with other mods so:
raceland induction, decat, sports back box, straight threw centre section, and soon a 4-2-1
with that would i get noticeable gains or is it only worth doing when you get everything pp and with racing cams etc

thats whats known in the trade as port matching, where all the joins are blended to the same size so as to give a nice smooth path flow

rather than like standered where it is all over the place, it certainly can work and is something ive done on several engines in the past and will be doing the same on the v6 engine when i get chance, along with fitting a ported out throttle body
