When cold it struggles to start without a bit of throttle, when it does get going I have to hold the revs up or it will cut out. Has only really been doing this since I had the headgasket done. So far iv changed the throttle body and checked for splits etc in the tubing. Think it might be the ICV?

#2mine did this too yesterday

reversing out of a driveway it stalled twice, sounded really rough and sluggish.
once i was out though it was fine going forward, which is strange, it only does it in reverse!! -
#3You could try and take the icv off and giv it a clean it wont hurt? my saxo was doing this and also reving up and down on its own so i just got a new icv off ebay fitted it and its been spoton ever since.Quote:When cold it struggles to start without a bit of throttle, when it does get going I have to hold the revs up or it will cut out. #4When the revs drop it sounds so ruff, starts knocking sounding like its going to die. Quite embarressing lolQuote:mine did this too yesterday

Yeah il give it a clean tomorrow if its not too cold. Hopefully it is only the ICV and nothing else. -
#5Thats what mine was pal and £20 0ff ebay as well.

#6same problem here, think its worth looking at the temp sensor aswell
-
#8check the resistance readings of the temp sensor. more pronounced if it is cold (i.e engine) as the ecu uses reading from this to determin the warm up proccedure. this is calld a closed circuit. ( i'm not being patronising btw
)
is it ok once it's warmed up? -
#9How do I check the readings? Didn't find it patronising at all, glad you explained it so I can understand hahaQuote:check the resistance readings of the temp sensor. more pronounced if it is cold (i.e engine) as the ecu uses reading from this to determin the warm up proccedure. this is calld a closed circuit. Yeah its fine once its warmed up. Sometimes it will start fine first time, others it will start up like a tractor or like an old vw beetle if you know what im on about? -
#10do you have a multimeter? with a ohms setting (looks like a horse shoe)Quote:How do I check the readings? Didn't find it patronising at all, glad you explained it so I can understand haha

whip the plug off for the temp sensor and use the two probes of the multimeter touch them to the prongs in the temp sensor.
i'll see if i can find the readings, -
#11No I havent but il get one tomorrow lol If you could find them out would be great
