Engine quiestion

I have a reasonably tuned vts with mod's including
    cone intake
    sportex exhaust system
    de-cat

I keep wondering after comparing myn to a few other vts's and gti's how it has such a smooth idle but is still proper fast,
The most recent gti i compared my vts with was dynod at 167bhp with remap , kent cams and de-cat and that car has and awfull idle realli cammy .

For a car that has not amazing mod's it seems too fast to be standard engine wise , is there any way i could identify if it has been played about with ?
the car has had a few owners but was totally standard when bought with no mods.

You`ve almost answered your own question mate,a high lift cam can give a lumpy idle(cam duration)part of it is how well the engine has been mapped as well & the type/make of cam used.

I see , i had a look at the camshafts when i last re-sealed the cam cover but didnt notice anything on them .
I always did have a sneeky suspicion that the vts has had a re-map because there is a bolt missing that holds the ecu down to the body of the car.
Is it normal for the vts engines to make a swirl noise under hard acceleration past 5k ? it sounds mint ! lol

It's unlikely it's been highly moddeddd in that way. What's the mileage? service history? you might just have a well looked after engine

It's got part service history done 112000 and runs mint just a bit noisy clutch , what i think is mabye 1 of the previous owners had to change the engine.
