vts engine light issues. help please!

  1. #1
the car is a 2002 vts and has basically been playing right up recently by misfiring and engine management light coming on. had the ecu read and the faults were. (along these lines misplaced the sheet now)

    1. coolant temp sensor - intermitent
    2. ignition coil 2 - intermitent
    3. ignition coil 3 no spark - intermitent
    4. injector 1 short circuit to + - intermitent
    5. injector 2 short circuit to earth - intermitent
    6. injector 4 short circuit to + - permanent

ive replaced coilpack and plugs on saturday(2nd time in 4 months) and no luck.

so becuase it only happens when its hot like after ive been driving it for 15 mins say. my next guess would be temp sensor before injectors as its also the cheapest.

However im worried it could be the ecu itself as it coming up with all the short circuits etc and i dont really know what all that means so just wanted some advice.

so tell me what you think please guys really desperate, this car making me want to burn it out at the moment!! thankyou!

have you replaced the coil pack with a new one as my was having the same faults put in a new coil pack and is now running spot on

yea like i said mate replaced the coilpack and plugs and saturday, both items brand new

check that no plugs have come loose/ making good contact (i.e no dirt in them)

just remember K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid)

basically rarther than pissing in the wind by replacing everything. get that multimeter out along with the haynes and test them wires

yeah the plugs are new and nice and tight. have no idea with electrics looks like its gunna be a garage job
    cheers for your help mate

any other thoughts could it be the ecu?

what i would recommend is getting a ecu thats unlocked and tryin it i thought it was your ecu first reading it but new ecu would be your best bet, this car is not chipped is it?

Have you check the wiring to the coil pack for breaks/continuity?

no but will do now youve mentioned it, thanks fella

    Update on this.
have now checked all coilpack and other visable wiring mentioned above and all seems fine by eye.
replaced coolant temp sensor that came up on ecu reading.
replaced fuel filter just in case as i already had one.
Removed and cleaned all sensors and cleaned connections/plugs to sensors.

Gave it to my mechanic who spent couple hours looking over it, his thoughts were wiring ecu/related. He also thought it was fuel not spark related and if it was his car hed have the ecu read again now ive done all this to try and fix it.

So today i removed top of inlet mani and check wiring/plugs to the injectors. All the plugs/connections look fine apart from 1, which the rubbery casing holding the wires and plug together was cracked quite bad.
All the wires are still fine its just literally the housing for it thats cracked open.
So finally my question. Could this be causing my issues?

poor images was hard to focus for some reason but you get the idea.

Sorry for my life story there. Thanks in advance!

Continuity check the wiring on that plug but it is probably ok. That casing is pretty thick. I reckon it's one or more of your injectors. Swap a couple round see if the fault moves? Buy a second hand set see if that helps. Send your injectors for a refurb. The injectors are a common fault. You can check the resistance over all 4 injectors. Obv should all be the same. That will rule out electrical fault within the injectors but this wouldn't rule out a physical blockage (partial or full) within the injector.

thanks for the reply mate. Yeah its booked in to an auto electrician tommorow for a going over as im useless with electrics. If they cant find a fault ill try a new set of injectors i think. Cheers!

    Solved!
For any one that cares i took the car to auto electrician and turns out there was a damaged wire in the injector loom, he fixed it and now its running sweet!
Woulda never found that myself, thanks for all your help anyways!
