Axle bearings question

  1. #1
I found when I had my vtr jacked up the other day that it has a very tiny amount of movement in the axle on the passengers rear side, i'm talking like 1mm and you can only just about feel it move. Anyway I was thinking could I change the bearings seeing as i've caught it pretty early. Just I would rather do that than wait for it to be totally knackered and pay the price of a fully refurbed axle if I can do it myself for the price of some bearings.

If I could do that how hard are the bearings to change? I managed to change both of my front wheel bearings without a press so if its no harder than doing that I should manage.

    Cheers

u should change them as the fcuked bearing will just cut the dung out of the stub pin. easy to change. undo braklines and hand brake cable. undo the torsion bar. take out the ARB and off itll slide. just knock out old bearings and spacer and refit.

so the arm will just slide off easy once everythings undone? I was thinking they would need hammering off or something

the hardest part could be knocking the arm off. borrow a 48oz hammer or similar and knock the hell out of it til its loose

Decided i'm gonna have a go at changing the bearing but unsure where to get my bearing/s from and should I change both even if the other side has no play? I've found some on ebay for £25 quid per side just wondered if they were any good quality if any1 has tried them?
