Apparently if you drill the side of your standard airbox that faces away from engine; you get more bhp than an aftermarket filter? xo
Drilling Airbox
-
#1
-
#2Not quite -
Drill the airbox on the side furthest away from the engine/heat
Replace the restictive filter inside the airbox with one that is a performance flat filter e.g green, K&N, Pipercross etc and it will possibly perform better as the factory filter is probably quite resrictive and drilling the holes lets more air in of course. And overall its cheaper than an Induction kit! Basically doing this to the airbox just allows more airflow. -
#3not gonna see any performance gains prob just more noise
-
#4Can be better than an induction kit such as a pipercross or K&N 57i (the types of induction kits that are NOT enclosed) because these induction kits can suck in more hot air and thus u will lose power whereas replacing the element in an enclosed, standard, airflow system through a standard air box and drilling it too can work better. Also would be better to replace the cold air feed into the airbox, I actually think I might get rid of my unenclosed pipercross induction kit because i think it gets too hot - Im saving for an enclosed system e.g viper/bmc etc but I may give the airbox a go as it could be better than what i have now!
-
#5if you drill the air box it then becomes open to hot air
-
#6But not as much as an unenclosed induction kit unless is positioned correctly, unlike the K&N 57i. And drill the side by your nearside front wing which is away from heat off the manifold that travels backwards...
-
#7as Scott says basically. much better getting a panel filter plus improved cold air feed.
-
#8Thats what I said....lolQuote:Originally Posted by seanvtr81as Scott says basically. much better getting a panel filter plus improved cold air feed.

#9you're going on about drilling the airbox, which is a waste of time, and assumes that it's restrictive, which it isnt. if you want to turn your perfectly good standard enclosed airbox into what is essentially an open filter then go ahead, but you will lose power.
-
#10I meant the panel filter can be restrictive, much better replacing it with one that will allow better airflow e.g K&N etc, OK, you dont have to drill it to get a better airflow because as I previously mentioned you could improve the cold air feed into the box too, but drilling the side futhest from the engine is also another option!Quote:Originally Posted by seanvtr81you're going on about drilling the airbox, which is a waste of time, and assumes that it's restrictive, which it isnt. if you want to turn your perfectly good standard enclosed airbox into what is essentially an open filter then go ahead, but you will lose power.

#11just buy an enclosed kit
-
#12That was his plan...but the airbox was just a possible idea for the time being
-
#13doesnt matter what side that you drill hot air is a gas and expands it will stillg et warm at either side
-
#14Ok but surely that would be no worse than an unenclosed induction kit? Unless its one that is long and sits right at the front of the engine bay or in the nearside cornerQuote:Originally Posted by Scottdoesnt matter what side that you drill hot air is a gas and expands it will stillg et warm at either side

#15Drill the side of the airbox and then run another ducting pipe from the new hole in the airbox to the front of the car.
-
#16dearie me.... and what would that do exactly? the hot air is still going to get into the drilled airbox.....Quote:Originally Posted by hellonplutoDrill the side of the airbox and then run another ducting pipe from the new hole in the airbox to the front of the car.
only reason to drill the airbox is if you want induction noise but cant afford an open filter. drilled airbox will lose power, 100% fact, but that's already been stated 423752384 times in this thread..... -
#17didnt they do a survey in Max Power once, and it stated you gained more power? x
-
#18there are two words in your sentence which explain why that's bullshit. can you guess which ones?Quote:Originally Posted by Soullessdidnt they do a survey in Max Power once, and it stated you gained more power? x

#19lmfao...
kk
x
-
#20was it more power
-
#21and for the love of god, i hope you're a bird, seeing as you put x at the end of every sentence. (unless you're a puff, nothing wrong with that mind)
-
#22no! it has been stated clearly..
-
#23do yoy not need to watch what you grill two you could end up suckin non filltered air
plus think its a tinky -
#24im pretty sure she is a girl...
