coilovers??

I am going to get some coilovers next week and wondered how they fit on the car do you have to take the old shock out of its strut and slide the coilover one into it ??

If not how do you do it coz the coilovers dont come with the attachment for the the track rod end

Yes, you will need to take apart the strut and take the old shocks and springs out, the original shock has a gold coloured cap to hold it in which you need to undo with some grips or knock it loose with a punch/chisel. then obviously slide in the new shocks for the coilovers. it should be self explanitary really once you have it all apart

ye you take the suspension leg off, deassemble it take spring off ect. take the shock out and replace with the new, then slide the adjustable sleeve on and reasemble. the track rod end attachment is already on the leg mate. pretty straight forward, you should figure it out easy

    Thanks for the advice

You also need to smash the old lower spring pan off other wise the cap that holds the coilover damper in doesn't fit properly

Sorry to be a pain in the arse lol

Do you mean were the original spring sits and do you just cut it off or does it just smash off ??

yea where the spring sits on the strut its normally a gold colour, just give its good belt with a hammer a few times and it just pops off no need for cutting

ill upload a pic in a min mate of how gaz show you to assemble them and you'll understand
    Gaz's picture \/

as you can see from the pic thats how you need to assemble them but ill take you through it.

you need to remove all parts to get the strut off i.e. track rod ends/ drop links/ wishbone. compress your springs and undo the top nut and remove all the top mounts and bearings, remove the spring then knock the gold thing that secures the damper to the strut off (anti clockwise) then remove the damper and your left with the black strut and the spring pan, you take the metal spring pan off by hitting it with a hammer towards where the damper was and it'll pop off (pic of the spring pan in question base of the spring)

    a unassembled standard setup

then you'll have your coilovers will be a set like this (not necessary this setup)

You then put the damper in the strut and put the securing screw piece on, do this up tight and then screw on the 2 adjuster bits these are what your new springs sit on and are how you adjust them. then put the spring on then the top cup sits in the top, the bearings go on after that followed by your top mounts and the damper securing nut. (going to assume your using a standard setup i.e. not solid top mounts)

you'll end up with a setup that looks like

hope that clears it up for you bud
