What Thermostat...

Ive been Stumped on replacing the thermostat on my VTR.

My local motor factors and halfords dont have the same one as ive taken off my car. They measured all the ones for 106 saxos they had in stock.

The diameter is too big for the housing. where as the one i took off fits snug.

Can Anyone shed any light on this?

Theres 2 (afaik) one with the housing and one with the thermostat on its own?

Yeah, Its Deffo the bottom one. The difference is, The middle part is the same but the Outer disc is 3 or 4 mm bigger than the one ive taken off my car.

Sure they are giving you the right one? is there a rubber seal in the box too?

Take 1 from a scrapy put it in boiling water if it opens use it, fair few cars you can take it off

It will overlap slightly as that the bit the rubber seal sit on which then gives you your seal when it's all tightened up

2 different places have given me the same answer, all saxo thermostats are the same. apart from the diesel and the ones built into the housing.

My one is a snug fit into the housing on both sides and the new ones are too big. i dont get it.

There's 2 types i cant get a standard thermostat like the ones on a Vts/mk1 vtr to fit in a mk2 vtr housing as the later one has clips and no metal ring

Have you priced one up from Citroen/Peugeot?

That would be my first port of call.

    number 6 or 8?

Ok, now im really confused... The Peugeot Service site and the Citroen service site show the 8v 1.6 engines as 100bhp (citroen) and 105bhp (pug) and the thermostat on the pug site is different only thing is, the thermostat opening temp is the same as the new thermostat i had.

This is the only similarity ive found. but still no correct fitting thermostat.

The 105 bhp 1.6 8v in the 106 uses the 82 degree stat, thats what I've fitted in mine. Was the same size/shape as the VTR one I purchased which I wasnt happy with as it opened a too high a temperature (88 degree)

Also get up a pic of your housing!

Hope this is of some help.

Edit.. Just noticed how rotten it all looks. time for a new rocker cover at least. lol

Never seen bend thermostat look like that before, usually they are clipped intogether.
Just buy picture one up there or take the housing to halfords and try all thermostats
