doing it by the book..

evening all, just finished changing head gasket and few other bits n bobs -following the haynes manual word for word type thing! (it is the first work ive ever done on it so wanted to do a propper job ! ) only regret ; being a tight arse and not forkng out for an angle measuring guage thing for the head bolts and using a protractor for a guestimated 2nd and 3rd stage tighten on the cylinder head bolts and now just worrying that i wasnt accuarate enough with it : oh well not a lot i can do now

enough of the blabbering on anyway.. my question is, just filled the coolant up as described in haynes, bleeding it - radiator, thermostat and heating gallery piping or what ever you call it, and then got it running and eventualy got all the air out ( i think) blowing hot air in car n all that. but it says something in the haynes manual about the radiator fan kicking in and ut 3 times or something ???? mine didnt ? is this an issue or not ? cheers

Start the car hold revs about 3k till fan kicks in just above half way.
let revs off car should settle and turn fan off then hold at 3k again and so on.

Yeah you do have to wait quite a while for it to start kicking in i remember changing the coolant think i was waiting a good 20mins + for the fan to kick in on idle i guess revving could speed it up as mentioned though

my fan never did and not had any overheating issues. allways blows hot air. to the point it's cooking your face.
