Stainless and Mild steel noise diff?

  1. #1
Is there much difference in sound between the 2 metals?

Someone said stainless steel and mild steel gives out a different note? unsure how true it or am i being taken for a mug.

I know stainless lasts longer but im asking about exhaust note on the exact same backbox..

    Cheers..

different metals will resonate differently. Silencer length, diameter and tailpipe size will also affect the sound. I doubt anyone has done a back to back test to specifically find out the difference though

as kam has already said its not as simple as stainless/mild it also depends on diameter, backbox size & brand also if you have 4-2-1 or similar fitted if you were to say what sort of noise you were after people could direct you raspy burbley ect

Even metal thickness will make a difference.
    If only it was simple....

The BTB is 2.5 diameter, pretty thick stainless, and that resonates like fuck at just below 3k, has a metallic howl. My Scorpion is 2", still fairly thick, but that resonates with a different note at over 3.5k, so similar materials different sizes will make a noticable difference.

You can definitely tell when youve fitted a stainless manifold over a cast one too.
