My Saxo sounds like an Impreza!

Right, I've not got any lambda sensors in, never driven over a mile until today. Started bogging down, a lot, bunny hopped down the road for a bit. EML light came on and I was struggling to get the thing over 30mph.

Came to a steep hill, 2nd gear and it was really struggling. Then all of a sudden, EML light started flashing and all the power came back, but it now sounds like a boxer engine and struggles to pick up under 1.5k rpm.

I think it's over fuelled to high heaven and killed something. EML light is now constantly flashing.

    3 plug Vts.

Gonna try and get my lambda sensors out the old manifold and cat and refit them, but I don't think it will help with the engine...

    Any Help?

That would be a missfire. Unfortunately I know nothing of these modern engines so can't really help. But it'll probably be injector, coilpack related.

    maybe Coilpack mine did this...

sounds like lambda sensor related, does your car cut out sometimes when you put the clutch down?

    Is it running on three?

    As above.

Are VTR spark plugs the same as Vts ones? I've got a full set of new plugs for a VTR!

I had exactly this problem, ill put money on it being the coil pack, was running on three and then all of a sudden the power would kick back in and go again at random intervals.

Unsure on if the plug's are the same. I reckon they will be.

And if it's running on three, you can feel it, they run lumpy, and just don't run right - which by the sounds of things is what yours is doing.

Surely it's a good thing if it sounds like an impreza?

Gonna change the plugs now and see if anything changes. If not I'm gomna change to a dizzy cap and leads.

Do GMC still do the kit?

i could have said drop some water on them and see which doesnt boil the water, but grabbing a handful of steaming exhaust is far more fun

Is it an 8v? If so check your rocker cover gasket - mine was leaking and dumping oil down the plug hole and obviously this caused it to run on three

Right, well I've managed to get my pre-cat lambda back in, not bothered with the post-cat lambda as I couldnt be arsed to go under the car. And I've changed all 4 spark plugs. The old ones were blacker than Phillips Idowu, a bit wet and stunk of petrol.

The EML light has stopped flashing, but not gone off, the car idles steady now, instead of making the engine try jump out of the bay, and it runs alright.
But it still sounds like a boxer engine and doesn't really pull like it should under 4k rpm...

[Fast and Furious Voice] I hope I have fried a piston ring.[/Fast and Furious Voice]
