mk2 vtr calipers, fit a mk1 1.1i

  1. #1
basically as title say , picked up a set of vtr mk2 calipers today, just wondering if they will fit my mk1 1.1i,

if not anyone wanna buy em lol
  2. #2
i did do a search but couldnt find my answer
  3. #3
yes, they will, will need bigger disks though
  4. #4
forgot to say mines is a 3 stud, if that makes a difference
  5. #5
then they will fit, but they wont work because you wont get disks big enough on 3 stud fitment
  6. #6
whats the biggest i can get for it? and what would i need for the vtr calipers?
  7. #7
pritty much nothing, just put on 4 stud hubs
  8. #8
id have to change the axle and front struts for that tho or can i just change hubs?
  9. #9
Couldn't you get the holes drilled in the correct place for 3 stud?
  10. #10
no idea lol, just picked them up today for 20 quid, was planning to do a 4stud conversion at some point so might just keep them til then
  11. #11
you can just change the hubs on the front but will need pressing in/out and you would need to change the rear axle for the rear, to be honest its not really worth bothering unless you have done a bigger engine conversion the standard brakes with good pads are more than enough
  12. #12
might look at decent pads then as my brakes are absolute crap, any recommendations for pads for a 3 stud
  13. #13
no, on the rear drum you can just change the outer drum face, on the front you can just change the hub uprights, if you pick correctly, you wont even have to change the drive shafts
  14. #14
good because ive just put a new driveshaft on it lol

Wow, this thread is chock full of shite.

ANY Saxo 4 stud caliper will not bolt onto ANY Saxo 3 stud hub carrier. End of. Change the hubs in your 3 stud struts and suddenly there won't be a brake option on the planet that will fit. That's assuming the 3 stud bearings will even fit the 4 stud hubs.

Changing the drums at the back is pikey - as pointed out the stub axles are different, not to mention the fact that 4 stud drums are a larger diameter than 3 stud ones (180mm plays 165mm) so your brake shoes will have a hard time finding anything to brake against!

    Lesson is, do it properly.

Il argue about the drums, you just get the 4 stud shoes and drums job done but you have a good few choices on shoes.

The 3 stud cylinders and backplates are smaller. So it's still a bit of a bodge.

If you wanted, you could change the

    - Stub pins
    - Backplates
    - Cylinders
    - Shoes + springs
    - Drums

But I'd ask yourself whether that's easier than 4 chunky bolts to remove the entire beam. I know I hate messing around with all the springs that lurk inside those drums!

'Doing it properly' involves changing the entire front struts and the rear beam. Then you can get one nice reg number for all the spare parts you'll ever need, instead of building some hybrid monster and forgetting which parts came from which car next time your wheel bearing explodes.
