   ok so ive got an r reg mk1 saxo, 1.1i single plug ecu, what engines can i drop strigh in without too much hassle? is there any that would just be plug and play??

   another spi 1.1. Wouldn't bother trying to upgrade a 1.1 into something bigger, it costs more than it's worth,just save up and get a bigger engined one, will probably cost you less too.

   what year of saxo is best to get the 16v out of? looking at a possible headgasket now(hope not) so would be handy to change engine instead

   any pre 2000 single plug engine. e.g my car is early 2000 and my engine is a 1998. i had the same single plug 1.1 spi engine as you, used a single plug 16v engine and the loom plugs matched up fine. you would need to use a gti loom in your 106. i have a gti engine and had to use a vts loom for it to match as the plugs are different between the two
