hi im new to this and dont know if i have posted this in the right place but here goes,

ive got a 2002 1.1i forte and im having to swap the engine due to a number of faults i have got a new engine to put in it from anouther forte and was confused with the imobiliser, if i swap the broken engine with the new engine and the ecu off the donor car will my key still start the car or will i need the key/chip that was used for the donor car so it matches the ecu or not? im swapping it with anouther 1.1i so would i even need the donor cars ecu? any help is much appreceated thanks

just to add im using all the ignition packs injectors etc from the original engine the donor is just the block using all other parts from original engine dont know if this helps thanks

If the engine your using uses the same ecu ( single plug/multi plug) then it's just a case of putting the new engine in using the origional loom and ecu.

    yep, this ^
just keep ecu matched with its own immobiliser and it should be fine

oh right brilliant! thanks ive later found that the ecu might have a fault with it if i have to change it cuz of fault and keep my original loom etc wil it be ok aslong as its the same type i.e the singleplug or multi plug or would i have to take it citreon to get them to programme it or whatever? thnks again

you would either have to get the ecu, ignition barrel and immobiliser.

or.... get an unlocked ecu and remove the immobiliser out your car before you fit it. if you was to do it this way all you need is the unlocked ecu and can keep your keys.

oh right cheers ive got the ecu key and barell just not the imobiliser will get onto guy see if he has it :s probs a stupid question whats the difference between locked and unlocked ecu?

if its locked you need the immobiliser for that ecu for the ecu to start the car.
if its unlocked it can be used on any car as long as that cars immobiliser is removed, if the immobiliser isnt removed then that will lock that ecu and it wont work on that car.
its basically a security device to stop hot wiring etc

that makes sense thanks for the help
