Crankshaft sensor

    Another problem
Well gti 106 has been off the road a week getting a new clutch, gear linkages etc. my mate is doing all the jobs he gets everything done goes to start it up and the battery is flat. We then get jump leads and it still won't start, it's turning over fine but won't spark up and there is no smell of fuel, before i gave it to him every once in awhile it'd struggle in the mornings but eventually would start, now it just wont happen and my battery keeps dying, he seems to think it's the crankshaft sensor or coil pack.... anybody have any ideas because i've spent enough money on the car in the last few weeks and it's doing my tits in

I'd check all earths are sanded down / tightened properly, Also the + and - on the starter motor.

The battery may not be flat, and just have a bad earth, so when you put jump leads on.. it creates a earth.

Had this problem with mine when doing conversion.. I must of sanded the earths down 5 times lol..

Also, when mine was going off ie no power to dash..

I unclipped the positive off the battery, put it back on and it came on..

    Just a thought

But the battery goes flat from turning it over mate i'd be trying things for 5 mins and it'd die as i said in my first post before i got my clutch done it'd struggle to start the odd morning but eventually it'd fire up but now it refuses to... the eml light came on when i put the new one in i turned the key the car started then died a few mins later which is strange and hasn't started since ... i only got to enjoy my new clutch for a mile lol i've the temptation to burn it

Have found out now my petrol pump isn't priming... was talking to a mechanic and he said i could of hit the fuel cut off switch in the top right hand corner went to have a look at it and something sounds loose on the inside of it ... is this normal? i'm thinking about replacing this before i get a petrol pump would one off a 1.1 work? as theres not many 16v over in ireland and parts are hard to come by!

That's the inertia switch. It's not difficult to test. Take it off and turn it upside down. The ball will activate the contacts at the top. Push the top back down again and see if the car will start. The rattling you can hear is the ball bearing inside, it's usually held in place by a magnt, until you hit something hard. Like a wall.

Interestingly though, i'm having similar problems with my saxo mk1 vts. Havent got a clue what it really is but i'm thinking of changing the coil pack.

    Best of luck.
