Important! : Cleaned engine bay, now the car idles high and revs dont drop!

  1. #1
As above, cleaned my engine bay this morning.

Re-connected the battery and now when i start the car, the revs stick at about 2000, and when i rev it they stick higher or just take forever to drop back down.

Im pretty sure this is related to the engine bay clean as it wasnt doing this yesterday.

Any help appreciated! Need to use the car for work later! Cheers

You didnt use the hose did you? ¬¬

Must cover all electrics. I would never jet a engine for this reason.

Nope i didnt use a hose, but i did gently rinse a sponge over the engine, trying to avoid most of the electrics, but obviously splashing some.

So basically.. have i been a noob and fucked everything? Or could it just be one thing that needs replacing, or even time to dry out properly?

Hmm i'll have a look for it, not sure where you mean. Is it alright to just unplug it, dry it and plug it back in then?

it's the plug just above the oil cap on the rocker cover. you can see it in this pic just underneath the strut brace.

and yeh just unplug it. dry it and plug it back in. use the hair dryer on a cold setting though, I'd also unplug the battery just incase

Been letting the bay dry in the sun for a good half hour since it happened, also dried most plugs and connecters with a hair dryer on cold setting.

Just dried the grey plug you said about aswell dan, re-connected the battery and it started up and idled/rev'd fine.
So hopefully thats all sorted now, cheers for the help mate

Just taken the car for a ten minute rag after it had all dried. Seems to be running fine now. Lovely day today aswell lol
