How to fit v-maxx coilovers propplery??

  1. #1
    Hi

I bought some vmaxx coilovers a while ago and had them fitted a while ago but they knock badly and when the wheel is off the ground there is ALOT of play in the insert. Ive been told something about a spanner in a c shape like something to remove a angle grinder dish not the same thing used to adjust the ride hight.

    Please help

Sounds like somebody removed the helper springs.

Buy some better ones, vmaxx are dire.

v maxx dont even do helper springs

mate have a read of some of these threads

    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sea...archid=5991738

raceland, gmax, vmax, ta technix are all the same and they are known to have problems becuase they are cheap

    Really? Bloody hell haha
  6. #6
I know they are shit but I just need them to stop banging they where all I could afford
  7. #7
they wont stop banging you should of just bought a fixed height kit
  8. #8
Like what and how much are they
  9. #9
spax or apex bout 200 quid off kam racing
  10. #10
Apex 50mm kit, or a spax kit, Apex rounds tend to be roughly £230-250, that includes front springs and shocks all round. Spax kits range abit more and can be more expensive.
The general view is that the cheapest coilovers worth getting that arent crap are GAZ GHA's.

i got my car back today from this :L it is the threadded collar come loose and the shock has major/dangerous play. take the suspension leg off and tighten the collar, with locktight or somthing so it stays tight. in the meantime turn ur music up so you cant here the banging from the cheap coilies and save for new ones lol

chris the collars threads fail not come loose

ive seen 2 sets do it now
you tighten them a few times and then youll go to do it and the thread wont be there anymore
  13. #13
apparently if you chop off the top coil, you can use a 2.25inch top spring pan which eliminates the poor design of it hitting all the time
  14. #14
It's actually: Lopp off a coil to open it to 3'', then fit the 3'' top spring cups, this allows the top pan to slide over the bottom adjuster. You also need better shocks, like spax or apex 'cos the one's with the cheap c/o kits aren't any better than standard.

Oh, and the more you ignore it, the more you'll destroy topmounts and dome the top of your struts.

I've fixed a few of these cheapo kits now. No probs so far.

the issue with chopping the spring is the damper needs shortening aswell to suit

chopping springs is never a good idea tbh

ahhh rite, umm thats shit i'l look out for this! i spose you can buy some better collars for 20 quid or so. still a tad dodgy thow.
I swear none of my mates have had problems with cheap coilovers on their VW's seems like its just saxos

The cheap ones are sort of okay on 306, no problems but you pay for with the ride

can buy weld ons and 2.5" spring pans off rally design but youll be better off just starting from scratch if you go that route

anything but a saxo they arent dangerous just ride shit
my skodas on joms (cheap) and its not bad
got a squeaky rear damper now though and tbh im looking to go to a better set up

Some mixed views, but I had a similar kit before and on the insert at the top were the threaded collar is a metal ring on normal shocks but on the cheap coilovers its made from plastic which wears away after abit. Even when the threaded collar is done all the way up they still will be loose inside. I had this problem, so I wedged the insert to hold it temporary.

the prob with the cheap coilovers is exactly what krisb said its just the top cups and adjusters slamming together first had experience here lol since hes modded them on mine ive had no probs what so ever only thing is the new spring cups cost a fortune so best thing to do is sell up and get something decent

    Are these actaukly shit
  22. #22
    They aren't bad.

They lower your car, for a reasonable price.

    The shocks are "ok"
go low and sometimes people have stated they have a knocking noise.
  23. #23
    VERY SHIT

buy the coilover conversion kit from rally design and a decent insert like a bilstein or Koni.
  24. #24
for the price of 3inch rally design top pans, you mayaswell get 2nd hand gaz lol
