I am thinking about spraying my vtr alloys black. i know i need paint, lacquer etc but i was wondering on what paint to buy, like what sort of quality. Also what amount will i need.

Does anybody have any websites that i can get the paint and lacquer off?

Halfords. You'll need primer and sandpaper too.

Yeah i was thinking of halfords but i have heard they are quite expensive. Yeah man i heard ETCH primer is the best to use.

120 grit sandpaper, grey primer for dark colours and white primer for lighter paints i find works best

Etch will be fine, but then again the £10ish grey halfords stuff will work just as well.

I'll normally remove the current paint using 240 grit, then 2 layers of primer. Check for imperfections and sand any out.

Then paint, roughly 3 even coats. Then I'll flat that back and apply a couple of layers of lacquer. Then polish up once it's been left over night.

I normally get through 4 cans of paint and 2 cans of primer for 4 wheels. Probably 2 for lacquer too.

i sprayed my mates alloys black for him, all you need is primer, sand paper, i used rough and soft wet and dry (not tooo rough though), paint and lacquer

i only paid about £3 a tin for the paint and primer, needed about 1, 1 and abit tins for each wheel (giving them a few coats)

the finishing looked awesome asif they were done professionally, and still look good today

aslongs as you take your time and not rush it, they should come out fine, make sure you sand them down perfectly and not to miss any bits,
its a cunt when the whole wheel comes out great then you get one bit of bubbling because youve missed abit of sanding -.- haha

I used these when painting my vtr alloys, pretty good quality paint and its alot cheaper than halfords when you add it all up. you could probably do it with less laqcuer than i have linked, I used about 2 and a half cans on 4 wheels.

Give the wheels a good clean make sure you get all dirt/grease off only use alloy wheel cleaner no wash and wax

Light grit sand paper no need to rub down to metal just take the shine off Carplan/Hycote paint and primer is plenty good enough use grey primer if your doing them black.

We used 2 tins of primer 2 tins of satin black and 2 tins of laquer that gave a decent shine with a gloss finish.

Matey told us not to use gloss black with primer as it will shine to much.

I have noticed though only been on road month and have and ive got major stone chips

not to use primer with gloss black primer has nothing to do with the shinyness

stone chips are because spray can paint is stupidly thin. you need about 1 can per wheel to build up any sort of thickness to the top coat.

Just to jump in here, I would like to remove scuffs on the edges before spraying mine, or does that not matter? If it does though what filler would I use? Sorry to thread jack. Just better than posting a whole other thread.
