run out of fuel

   What would happen if i was to let my car run out of fuel? is it a matter of putting more fuel in and restarting? my mate seems to think ill need a new fuel pump and will get lots of crap in ma engine? I don't usualy get it so low that the light comes on but jut wonderd i it bad if i do?

   be a bit more of a pain if were a diesel with a high pressure pump ( or a ford lol)
   
   but with a petrol you should be fine.
   but saying that a saxo has a low fuel warning light so no excuses

   just add fuel and start..
   how ever letting your fuel run low often is bad for the engine as the last bit of fuel will drag the crap from the bottom of your tank with it!

   always makes me wonder when people say it drags the shit from the bottom of your tank up....is it just me or is that why we have a fuel filter? to stop the shit...

    Ive ran out of fuel loads, prob 10 times in my old vtr, and about 4 in this one, never had any problems as of yet!

    The petrol comes from the bottom of the tank, so if the car has been sat over night the first bit of fuel will still be full of shit because its had time to settle, regardless of the amount of fuel.

    Happens to me alot, my petrol guage doesn't work lol.
    
    Carry a Jerry can, 5 litres will get you to a petrol station, just dump the Jerry can in and off you go.

    i have never ran out of fuel, nearly did once though, but only through my blatent ignorance of the warning light lol, car was chugging when going around bends lmao

    my car was running on reserve for a while but the light only comes on when it's halfway through the reserve.
    
    Bit weird i thought, I though the light would come on as soon as the pointer hits the white block but it only comes on halfway down the reserve block.

    Mines comes on at the start of the white block , always on the bloody thing.. can drive for years on it though! (not liturally years..)

    how far you guys get from when fuel light comes on? iv got a 99 saxo vtr, got about 29 miles before it conked out on me. (was expecting more miles)

    last time mine was low the filter pretty much popped off and ended up with petrol pissing out :/ the car was really low of fuel but loads still came out was pretty surprised :L

    yeah same as above, add petrol and should be fine. People dont realise how much shit actually is in petrol coming from the petrol station, sand and dirt and all sorts

    petrol station tank same as car tank, all craps at bottom and they shut station if its low, i know coz i got told off for driving round some cones to get to the pumps and had a argument with a ginger streak of piss lol. so cant be that much crap coming through pumps into the car
