Can i under fuel somehow?

  1. #1
Had the car for an MOT and failed on the emissions 0.150 over the 0.300 allowed on the fast idle tests.

I have already replaced the cat but i dont think that will fix the problem as the tester said he thought it was running rich due to the smell.

My question is: Is there anyway i can under fuel the car or get it back to the factory settings? Other than taking the battery off for an hour.

    Cheers

Taking the battery off for an hour won't work. You could clear the ECU of it's fuel trim settings and see if that aids things. But really you need to looking at a solution rather and the bodge job.

    EDIT: tried changing the lambda?

change lambda, new fuel filter, sparks, injectors. i had to do that when mine failed emissions. i also ended up with a missfire whilst doing the repairs and turned out to be coil pack so maybe worth adding to the list.

Is the EML not meant to come on if the lambdas knackered?

Redex added to the shopping list lets hope not the coil pack.

    MK1 VTR by the way

Not all ways. If the lambda has an offset rather than just spewing out garbage the ecu won't realise and therefore won't throw up a fault code. You can't rely on the elm light to tell you there's a problem.

Engine knackered? It could be various things, map sensor, air temp loads.
  7. #7
ecu temp sensor will also make car run rich if its knackered

    Fuck me! longer list

Cheers for the (err) help, should keep me busy for a while.
