Alright lads, when i put my foot down at the moment to accelerate , it hesitates alot then all of a sudden when it reaches about 5,000 RPM it sort of gives it a huge kick of power, seems to be this hot weather. Would it be because i have an piper-x open air induction kit? Im thinking this might be the cause of the hesitation?
Performance in this heat!

#2Thats probably the main reason why your loosin performance because not only is your induction kit taking in all the warm air from your engine bay but also from the heat outside.
-
#3bin the piperx that's your problem. there was one on mine when i bought it, took me a while to get rid but when i replaced it with the standard airbox the difference was immediately noticeable.
-
#4really? i might go and test it to see if thats true or not
-
#5hot air = less dense air = less power.
and open induction is going to screw it in this weather -

Agreed, mine came with 1 on aswell, took it straight off. -
#7il put orignial filter back on and take it for a spin i think and let you know how she does, i might just miss the sound though
are they that bad? -
#8Open filters yes, a nice filter to think about is the enclosed green cotton, and you still get a bit of a sporty sound when you put your foot down.
-
#9sound like your going faster or actually go faster???

I know which one i would choose

#10was this meant for me?Quote:Originally Posted by adsayersound like your going faster or actually go faster???

#11as ad says. Daryl put a panel filter in the standard airbox, plus a piece of samco from the grill to the airbox in place of the standard cold air feed. voila, enclosed induction kit (what the standard airbox is anyway....). still beats me why people pay over 150 for bmc etc....
-
#12Agreed but people also like to style out there engine bay, and what better way to do it but buy a nice lookin air filter. i got my green filter on the cheap anyway, but if i didnt then id probs go for a panel filter.

man you have too much cash! lol samco = silly price -
#14still way cheaper than a bmc
-
#15lol man i cant believe how much better it is with standard filter on, i swore when i first fitted the piper-x it felt better, but its definatly not. Will be selling that then im really suprised by the lvel of difference
-
#16haha good luck selling it after the slating it's just had
-
#17lol yer i cant believe its made that much difference, feels like i totally different car, alot more responsive!
-
#18Lesson of the day, never buy an open airfilter.
-
#19untill now i have used them happily but now i have seen what ive been missing im not buying another in a hurry LOL
-
#20I had the same problem with my 57i kit, it was really heating up @ the back of the engine bay. I overcame this problem by making a pipe that re-located the open filter to just behind the n/s headlight allong with a cold air feed. The result was NOTICEABLE AND LOOKS MINT! If any1 wants a pic let me know.

#21get a green enclosed you big fag

at least it wasnt anything terminal
-
#22price on a green enclosed? and are they the same as BMC? i know BMC is tested and increases BHP between 5-10
i have a crapy open filter that was on car when bought, aint got the orig either. -
#23My car is running like crap aswell I have a Ram cooler fitted which is struggling to get any any cold air in, its useless I'm going to get Piper X viper.
