coolant top up

if i want to top up the coolant (its on the min mark when cold) can i just add water/antifreeze mixture into the reservoir next to the rad or do i need to add it and then bleed the whole system?

Yes you can just add to it as long as there is water in there already, ie air hasnt been introduced to the system. But you should use the same type of anti freeze thats already being used.

think its glycol based, i havent altered the cooling system since i got it so im not exactly sure of exactly what type is in it

You could flush it through and put new in? Would do it good and then you know what type is in there if you have to top it up.

can normally tell what type by the colour.

but it should be blue in saxos, if it hasn't been changed in 2 yrs i would recomend changing it before the winter this year.

and no need to bleed if it just needs topping up.

Mines the pink halfords stuff in mine -does that make it a problem?

    no pinks fine
aslong as you dont mix colours

the only difference really is, blue lasts 2 years and is usually used for older cars

and pink lasts upto 5 years and is usually used on newer cars

    yeh as above.

pink and blue can be used in saxos' but they were blue from new.

it's when you get into the green antifreeze. that shouldn't be put in a pink/blue cooling system as it has a higher percentage of a certian chemical or something that erodes the rubber hoses.
