vtr speedo reading way out

  1. #1
recently bought a saxo vtr, the speedo is reading far lower than it should, when it feels like im doing 70 it is reading about 35,

seems to read about half of what the actual speed is

does anybody know where it picks the speed signal up from? it had had a bump at the drivers fron strut and was wondering if this could be related,

    haha

if your being serious pal its read from the gearbox. try a new wire

surely a wire would either work.. or not? why would it only read half?

    easy enough job, any guides?

Not got a sat nav or a phone with satnav to check your speed with, so you can see if your speedo's actually out.

have your dials come out at all? if they have maybe needles havent been put back on in right place

its rising at half the speed it should , it is definatley way out

go on the motorway, keep up with traffic and see if it is that far out. If it is, try replacing the speed sensor in the gearbox, a wire should lead to a little sensor stuck in the side of the gearbox. Look im scrappys, its unlikely you'll pick up a dodgy one as they rarely go wrong. If that fails, try replacing the dial. Or the other way round, dial first.

All other dials work correctly including tachometer???

i have been on the motorway keeping up with traffic doing 35 mph, it is definatley out..

all other dials seem to work fine, tacho seems to be doing normal revs

just noticed today that when driving with the lights on, the backlights on the dials are very dim, also noticed that it wont let me change the time on the dash,

the speedo needle has begun to fluctuate, sometimes rising close to actual speed and then dropping again,

    any ideas?
