Ok so my engine light has come on tonight, it flashed for 10 seconds and then stayed on. Car is still running fine but occasionally over the past month or so there has been a strange smell from the exhaust. My immediate thoughts are lambda sensor? Unless anyone else has any ideas?
Engine Light :(

#2A lot of the times it's emissions, might be your cat if there's a weird smell, possibly need a new one

#3How serious would you say cat going would be? Would it lead to further problems if I left it or would it be fine? Mot isn't till December and I plan on having a new car before then anyhow.
-
#4Nah not serious really mate, the cat just limits the harmful gasses coming from the exhaust, would fail mot though but as you said its not till December and you plan on getting a new car, it's not any louder than usual is it?
-
#5Nope, it's no louder than usual and it's running smoothly still with no loss of power. Engine light came on while driving but nothing changed, went for a good drive to make sure a misfire hadn't developed but all was good. So I can only really think it woul be emissions.

#6Cat wouldn't result in loss of power , without one you gain a bit with the gasses being released fasterQuote:Nope, it's no louder than usual and it's running smoothly still with no loss of power. And yeah it does sound like emissions to me

#7Didn't quite boot it to notice as such but I see horror stories here and there about people's cats falling off etc once they're truly gone.Quote:Cat wouldn't result in loss of power , without one you gain a bit with the gasses being released faster

I'll go for a flying stop at the garage in the morning before work and see what they have to say, if it is the cat all the more reason to get a decat mani/pipe.
